Honors Geometry – Chapter 8

Monday, Jan 22
Lesson: Radicals Review
Objective: To multiply square roots and to rationalize the denominator.
Activity:  First, multiply radicals by multiplying together the coefficients and by multiplying the numbers under the radical.  Then, simplify fractions under a radical and simplify fractions with radicals in the denominator.
Assessment:  Mult. Square Roots and Rationalizing the Denominator

Tuesday, Jan 23

Lesson: Algebra Review: Radical Expressions

Objective: To simplify radicals and to figure basic Pythagorean Theorem problems.

Activity: Simplify radicals.
Assessment: Wrkst- Algebra Review- Radical Expressions

Wednesday, Jan 24

Lesson: 8-1 Geometric Mean

Objective: Find the geometric mean between two numbers. Solve problems involving relationships between parts of a right triangle and the altitude to its hypotenuse.

Assignment: Geometric Means Wrkst

Thursday, Jan 25

Lesson: 8-1 Geometric Mean Again

Assignment: pg 541, 8-13, 16, 18-23, 26-28, 35-37

Friday, Jan 26

Lesson: 8-2 The Pythagorean Theorem
Objective: Find the lengths of the sides of right triangles. Determine whether a triangle is right, obtuse, or acute.
Activity: Find the lengths of sides of right triangles using Pythagorean Theorem, find the area of isosceles triangles, and find common sides of right triangles using pythagorean triples.
Assignment: None- Start notes

Monday, Jan 27

Converse of Pythagorean Theorem

8-2D

Tuesday, Jan 28

Lesson: 8-3 Special Rt Triangles

Objective: To determine the lengths of 2 sides of a 45-45 right triangles and of 30-60 right triangle when the length of the third side is known.

Activity: Show one side of a 45-45-rt triangle.  Find the other 2 sides by using Pyth. Theorem.  Use natural numbers and radicals.  Then show the 1-1-*2 ratio as a way to find the missing sides as a short cut method. Show one side of a 30-60-rt triangle.  Find the other 2 sides by making it an equilateral triangle.

Then show the 1-2-*3 ratio as a way to find the sides easily.

Assessment: 30-60 rt triangles and 45-45 rt triangles (Separate)

Wednesday, Jan 29

Lesson: 8-3 Special Rt Triangles Again

Assessment: pg 562,

Have Worksheet 45-45/30-60 Rt Triangles

(Mixed this time)

Thursday, Jan 30

Lesson: 8-3 More Special Right Triangles
Objective: To determine the length of the other 2 sides of 45-45-rt and 30-60-rt triangles given one side of the triangle.
Activity:  Grade previous, can do quiz?, and show examples.
Look at examples of more special right triangles word problems.
Assessment:  Wrkst- More Special Rt Triangles
