Lesson: 8-1 Geometric Mean

Objective: Find the geometric mean between two numbers. Solve problems involving relationships between parts of a right triangle and the altitude to its hypotenuse.

Monday, Feb 4

Lesson: 8-1 Geometric Mean Again

Do Pythagorean Theorem notes and Converse notes separate

Use worksheet 8.2 D for both days

Lesson: 8-2 The Pythagorean Theorem
Objective: Find the lengths of the sides of right triangles. Determine whether a triangle is right, obtuse, or acute.
Activity: Find the lengths of sides of right triangles using Pythagorean Theorem, find the area of isosceles triangles, and find common sides of right triangles using pythagorean triples.
Assignment: None- Start notes


Have worksheet for Pythagorean Theorem

Look at old book –

pg. 444, 1-28 all, omit 2 and 26

Need graph paper

Lesson: 8-3 Special Rt Triangles

Objective: To determine the lengths of 2 sides of a 45-45 right triangles and of 30-60 right triangle when the length of the third side is known. 

Activity: Show one side of a 45-45-rt triangle.  Find the other 2 sides by using Pyth. Theorem.  Use natural numbers and radicals.  Then show the 1-1-*2 ratio as a way to find the missing sides as a short cut method. Show one side of a 30-60-rt triangle.  Find the other 2 sides by making it an equilateral triangle. 

Then show the 1-2-*3 ratio as a way to find the sides easily. 

Assessment: 30-60 rt triangles and 45-45 rt triangles (Separate)

Lesson: 8-3 More Special Right Triangles 
Objective: To determine the length of the other 2 sides of 45-45-rt and 30-60-rt triangles given one side of the triangle. 
Activity:  Grade previous, can do quiz?, and show examples. 
Look at examples of more special right triangles word problems. 
Assessment:  Wrkst- More Special Rt Triangles

Lesson: 8-1 to 8-3 Review – Jeopardy

Objective: To review the concepts learned in these sections. 

Activity: Jeopardy Game

Assessment: Students will work the problems and turn them in.

 

Thursday, Feb 14

Lesson: 7-5 to 7-7 The Sine, Cosine and Tangent Ratios 

Objective:  Define the tangent, sine and cosine ratios

for an acute angle.  Identify the trig functions according to given triangles.  Use calculator to look up trig functions.  Show triangles with sides given.  Tell the trig ratio.  Use the table or a calculator to find an approx. of trig ratios.

*Note- Teach only first 2 concepts on worksheet today-do solving tomorrow.

Assessment:  Wrkst-  8-4 Trig Ratios

Objective: To review concepts learned about choosing the correct method and application problems. 

Activity: Grade homework, and then do review handout.
