This is my fourth year with Weatherford Public Schools and my second year to teach Chemistry I and Chemistry II at WHS.
I started my teaching career at Dibble High School. I then taught at Frederick High School. I was at Altus High School for 12 years. After that, I taught at Hydro-Eakly High School for 5 years.
After my second year of teaching, I worked in a summer internship program at OMRF where I studied genetic variability and regulation in E. coli. This is where I built confidence in my ability to conduct, set up, and teach labs with and for students. In the summer of 2011, I was awarded the opportunity to intern under Dr. Holgado at SWOSU where I was able to study neurobiology using C. elegans.
I also had a summer internship at SWOSU working with Andrea Holgado. I was allowed to see her work in neuroscience. I gained experience in seeing how a real lab works. I studied genes and spent time with worms of the species C. elegans.
I have had the opportunity to help with TechTrek for 3 summers. I really enjoyed working with my small groups of 8th grade girls as they learned more about DNA or science of the oil/gas industry. It is an awesome program for the up-and-coming STEM professionals.
I have been married to Kevin for about 20 years. We lived most of our married life in Altus, Oklahoma; we moved to Weatherford 8 years ago. We have 2 children. Josh is a Sophomore at OU and Sarah is a Junior at Weatherford High School. We have one dog named Marki.
I enjoy spending time with my family. I like to cook new recipes. When I can find the time, I like to escape it all with a good book.
